Pass Plus is a course designed specifically for new drivers; to build on your existing skills and knowledge.

Keith Mansfield, Pass Plus registered instuctorPass Plus is a scheme that has been designed by the DSA (Driving Standards Agency), in conjunction with the Driving Instructor's industry and Insurance companies.

The Pass Plus course can only be delivered by Registered Instructors such as myself. (I've been registered to deliver Pass Plus since the scheme was introduced in November 1995).

By doing this course you may be eligible for a discount on your insurance policy (you will need to check this with the relevant insurer).

Please be aware; although the modules covered should be the same between registered instructors, the content will vary wildly in quality between them.

The course covers six different modules. These being;

  • driving in town.
  • driving in adverse weather.
  • driving on rural roads.
  • driving at night.
  • driving on dual carriageways.
  • driving on motorways.

The course I deliver covers all the standard topics, but there are further elements of Advanced driving techniques (although my pupils become used to this, as I begin to introduce some of these techniques while training for the 'L' test)!  Adverse weather is a topic that, unfortunately, few pupils will receive practical training for. Most often, it would be delivered as a theory discussion. For this I have designed a quality 16 page glossy booklet which covers far more detail than the standard course could ever hope to! The booklet is yours FREE! Keep it in your glove box to remind you of the finer points of driving through floods and fords, techniques for driving in hail or any of the many other tips.

ABOVE ALL, REMEMBER THAT I WAS ISSUED A GRADE 6 BECAUSE OF 1ST CLASS QUALITY AND CONTENT- YOU TOO CAN BENEFIT FROM THIS!

You may, as a new driver feel nervous about one or more of the above. Pass Plus is invaluable in helping you to feel more comfortable and knowledgeable about the various driving conditions. You may have covered most of the above in your driving lessons, but Pass Plus covers these in more detail and the course is completed by continual assessment meaning there is no exam at the end of it. There are no compulsory reversing exercises

In addition to teaching you about the above situations, it also helps to increase your awareness and observation skills, enhancing your safety whilst driving. If you wish, time can also be allocated to address specific issues that worry you, i.e. Roundabouts or reversing etc, (though this will extend the time required).

Becoming a skilled driver can take many years of gaining the experience needed. Pass Plus aids this process by giving you practice under the guidance of an expert. It can aid confidence, safety, hazard perception, reading the road, anticipation and reactions (Defensive driving).

Pass Plus will take a minimum of six hours tuition after passing your test. Some people will require longer to get up to the required standard. It will be six hours well invested, after all, if you don't take the course, it can take many more hours and a significant amount of money on your insurance and policy excess in the event of an accident than it takes to complete the Pass Plus course.
